Osteospermum ecklonis ‘Voltage™ White’
Osteospermum ecklonis ‘Voltage™ White’
Commonly known as African Daisies or Cape Daisies, Osteospermum ‘Voltage™ White’s brilliant white flowers brighten up any area of the garden. The tops of the petals are white, and bright yellow on the bottom. The centers are a cheerful golden-yellow. The flowers of Osteospremum ‘Voltage™ White’ have a composite head. This means that it has a central disk flower with outer ray flowers, that are grouped together to form a single flower-like structure. This type of flower, or inflorescences is ideal for attracting beneficial insects to the garden.
‘Voltage™ White’ is an early bloomer, starting in late winter, and in cool summer areas will continue to bloom well into summer and fall. In hotter areas, the blooms shut down in the heat of summer and will reemerge in the coolness of fall. Be sure to deadhead spent flowers to prolong the bloom season.
‘Voltage™ White’ has a compact-full growth habit, and reaches 12-15” tall x 18-24” wide at maturity. It is both rabbit and deer resistant…now that is a very good thing!!! It is fairly drought tolerant once established, but to be honest, it looks much nicer when given regular irrigation. It will benefit from a late summer pruning to promote new growth and bountiful blooms through autumn.
It is hardy to 32°F, and the Sunset Western Climate Zones are 8, 9, 12-24. Elsewhere treat as an Annual. Plant in full sun and use in landscape beds, on slopes for soil retention, in rock gardens, cottage gardens, city gardens and coastal gardens.
