Gaura lindheimeri ‘Siskiyou Pink’, ‘Whirling Butterflies’, and ‘Sparkle White’
Gaura lindheimeri ‘Siskiyou Pink’, ‘Whirling Butterflies’, and ‘Sparkle White’
Gaura lindheimeri, also known as “Wand Flower” or “Bee Blossom”, is an herbaceous perennial that is native to Texas and Louisiana. It grows anywhere from 1 ½ - 3 feet tall, and 2 – 3 feet wide.
‘Sparkle White’ is the most compact of the three varieties, and is an All American Selection Winner and FleuroSelect Gold Medal Award Winner for excellent garden performance.
Although Gaura lindheimeri has a graceful and delicate look, these perennials are tough plants and strong performers in the landscape. They have narrow dark green leaves that grow in a mound at the base, and are topped with long, slender semi-arching stems that are covered with dark pink buds that open to dainty flowers reminiscent of tiny Butterflies.
‘Siskiyou Pink’s flowers are variegated and deep rosy-pink. ‘Whirling Butterflies’ are blush-apple blossom, and ‘Sparkle White’ are pure white. These varieties of Gaura are both rabbit and deer resistant. Because of their long tap roots, they are able to withstand fairly long stretches of drought. With that being said, they will look their best if given regular water. Plant in full sun, (afternoon shade in hot-summer climates) in well-drained soil. The Sunset Climate Zones are 2B – 24, and they are hardy to < 0°F. They attract both Butterflies and Hummingbirds to the garden.
We are currently growing all three varieties in 1 gallon containers. Pick some up today. Follow us on Instagram @clearwatercolornursery to get an inside scope on the day to day happenings around the nursery.
