Ageratum houstonianum ‘Blue Horizon’ (Floss Flower)

If you’re the kind of person who loves to discover new and interesting varieties of plants, then you will want to add Ageratum houstonianum ‘Blue Horizon’ to your list of favorites. This variety of Ageratum is quite a bit different than the kind that you would normally find in the bedding plant section of your local nursery. Most Ageratums grow 10-12 inches tall, but ‘Blue Horizon’ grows a whopping 30 inches tall! This graceful plant sends up multiple branches that are topped with clusters of soft and fuzzy lavender-blue flowers. The common name “Floss Flower” refers to the tiny, thread-like petals that cover each blossom, giving them a somewhat fuzzy appearance. The flower clusters are slightly flattened, and are the perfect landing pads for the local Butterfly and Bee populations.

The height of ‘Blue Horizon’ makes this a good choice for English and Cottage gardens, as it finds itself at home among Digitalis, Delphinium, Catananche and Cosmos. The sturdy stems, and the unique flower color and texture make this plant a favorite with floral designers and cut flower growers.
