Begonia x tuberhybrida ‘Nonstop®’, ‘Non Stop® Mocca ’, and ‘Go Go’ (Tuberous Begonia)

One of the best known Begonias in the west, the flowers of the beloved Tuberous Begonia are a delight to eyes from spring through the first frost. These gorgeous, mostly fully double flowers average 4 inches across and come in a range of colors including deep red, scarlet, deep orange, yellow, deep rose, rose petticoat, salmon, pink, apricot & white. The plants grow 12-16 inches tall x 12-16 inches wide and have multiple strong branches that are covered with exquisite flowers!

Begonias are monoecious plants, meaning that they have both male and female flowers on the same plant. On Tuberous Begonias the double flowers are the male flowers and the singles are the females. Both are equally lovely and work together to create a stunning display. These plants thrive in bright, filtered shade and are ideal for hanging baskets, containers and window boxes. They require well-drained soil that is rich in organic matter. Keep evenly moist but not soggy. Over watering and humid conditions may result in diseases such as mildew or stem rot. Correct irrigation practices and wide spacing with good air circulation will help to avoid such problems. Fertilize twice monthly with a general-purpose liquid fertilizer diluted to half strength.

When the cool days of autumn arrive and the leaves of your Tuberous Begonias begin to yellow, gradually reduce irrigation and stop fertilizing altogether. When the leaves drop off, lift the tubers out of the pot, gently remove all soil and loose roots, and lay the tuber in a warm dry place for several days to thoroughly dry out. Once it is dry, loosely wrap each tuber in newspaper or place in a separate paper bag. Lay them in a cardboard box to store until spring. Store the cardboard box in a cool dry place (35-45°F), like a shed or garage. Do not allow tubers to freeze! Plant when you see new pink buds appear.
